The FC Dallas Breakout Index: Late March 2026
When I first published the Breakout Index just over two months ago, FC Dallas was still in preseason. No games had been played, no injuries incurred or the alike. I was largely working off reports from Portugal and some assumptions based off 2025's performances.
Fast forward to today's second edition of the Index. We've had five MLS games for Dallas, North Texas SC has begun their season, and the first international break of the campaign has arrived. It's a natural time to examine the risers and fallers through the first quintet of fixtures.
One: Kaick
Previous ranking: Two
Coming into year two Kaick's future was bright but uncertain. The midfield was cluttered around him with new signings and hopeful returners. Last year's $4 million man was not a lock for the starting lineup in theory.
So far 2026 has been Kaick's coming out party. His unstoppable engine has led the way, covering tons of ground each game. What has emerged is his forward play, to the point where he's been more attacking than defensive midfielder. That's allowed Eric Quill to play him next to new signing Joaquin Valiente, dropping Christian Cappis and Ramiro further back. That enables Quill to have all four of his best midfield options on pitch at once.
Kaick's next evolution is consistency. If he can find the balance between attacking and defending, between getting forward and tracking back. He's got the physical attributes to accomplish such, time will tell whether it'll come to pass.
Two: Edouard Nys

Previous ranking: Not ranked
Nys got my attention shortly after being drafted 40th overall in the 2026 SuperDraft. His college production was off the charts, he embodies the dog mentality that Quill and company are imbuing within the roster, and Dallas in general has great luck with the draft.
Four games in, the Nys hype train is fully loaded and in motion. He's second in MLS Next Pro in scoring with four goals, including a hat trick against Colorado Rapids 2. He's alone in third with seven shots on target, and he's got nine key passes.
Dallas is still looking for that string pulling 10, even as Valiente has shown himself to be a positive roster addition. There's a world where Valiente and Nys play together as the dual 10s supporting Petar Musa, with Nys as the creator and Valiente as the workhorse.
One thing that could inhibit Nys' top roster debut: He'll need an international roster spot, something Dallas doesn't have right now. That doesn't mean they couldn't free one up, but it'd take a more diligent transaction. Should Nys continue performing at this level however, he'll force the first team's hand sooner than later.
Three: Nolan Norris
Previous ranking: One
As most folks were, I was high on Norris coming into the season. Every single indication was that Norris would be the starting center back Opening Night. Then Opening Night came and went, and Norris didn't start. In fact he didn't start until fellow center back Osaze Urhoghide needed a night off to manage a groin knock.
Once Norris got in, he shook off the negative vibes from preseason while displaying why he was so well considered. His passing led the way, and his defense stood up capably against a tenacious San Diego side. That continued into the next game against Houston with Urhoghide back in the lineup. Norris is also busy this international window, as he's with the US U21s in South Korea.
When Norris returns, one assumes he'll continue starting. His passing helps unlock so much on offense, and his defensive work is more than sufficient. That said fellow center back Sebastien Ibeagha has had a strong start to his season also. Norris will have to earn the job continually if he wants to remain in the starting eleven.
Four: Benji Flowers

I did not expect this name to pop up on the list this early, but it's worth a mention. Flowers made his NTSC debut at just 14 years old against Houston Dynamo 2 in a 2-nil losing effort. The midfielder is thought of as the next big youth prospect in the FC Dallas system, having earned US Youth National Team call ups for his age group as well.
One has to think if he's making the NTSC roster at this age, there's going to be a push to see more of him going forward. How long that will take is unknown. That said his inclusion at such a young age mixed with the hype starting to bubble around him screams to me this is one to watch.
No longer ranked: Ricky Louis, Diego Garcia
Others being monitored: Ricky Louis, Diego Garcia, Slade Starnes, Caleb Swann, Nicolas Simmonds, Jaidyn Contreras
